The wolf stirs up much controversy, either loved or hated. In movies and popular culture it is typically portrayed as evil or destructive, however, like any ecosystem, the wolf plays an important part in maintaining a delicate balance. Not long ago wolves were endangered, though now face threats again. The painting is titled solstice, which occur two times per year, once during the longest day of the year, the other during the shortest. The painting alludes to the tenuous balance between healthy wolf populations and the wolf as an endangered species.
