On the west side of the Nephin Mountain in Co. Mayo, itself tucked to the west of Ireland, lies an near untouched landscape of heather and whin bush covered hills, loughs with the names Furnace, Feeagh and Bunaveela. No towns, no villages, just the pocked marked remnants of old subsistence farms and cottages spread out across a land that can only sustain the hardiest of animals; the Mayo Blackface Sheep.
The artist chose this particular style of painting to capture the atmospheric qualities of the region; the harsh winds, the wild nature of the grasses and sea, and the dampness of the air, allowing the green to be pervasively brilliant
