Painting driftwood is almost a spiritual act. I find these massive pieces of drift on the beach, and I’m fascinated by their shape and structure. I suppose I’m painting nature’s sculptures. I like to incorporate elements of nature to adorn the drift with color and interest as if the shape alone isn’t enough – adding an element of life seems to illustrate the landscape of death and rebirth, so for me it creates purpose.
